Referral service, not a contractor. Prevent Home Leaks does not perform plumbing, leak repair, or water damage restoration. Calls to (855) 555-0100 are connected to an independent, licensed local provider, who may pay us for the referral. Always confirm the provider's license and get a written estimate. How this works
Toilet dye test
A worn flapper can let water trickle from the tank into the bowl around the clock without any noise.
- Remove the tank lid and add a few drops of food colouring to the tank water.
- Don't flush for 15โ30 minutes.
- If colour appears in the bowl, the flapper or flush valve seal is leaking.
Common fixes
- Replace the flapper, an inexpensive part. Take the old one to the store to match it.
- Adjust the chain so it isn't holding the flapper slightly open.
- If the tank overflows into the overflow tube, lower the fill valve float or replace the fill valve.
Shut off the toilet's supply valve before working on it. If the valve itself is seized or leaks, call a plumber.
